The unforgettable story of the girl that no one remembers
Our story starts in 1714 in France. A young free-spirited girl is forced to marry a man she does not love. She wants to see more than her tiny village, she wants to see the world. If she marries it will be all over. She will never see more than this village. In a desperate attempt to avoid her marriage she accidentally prays to the wrong God. He is eager to give her what she wants in exchange for her soul.
That is how Adeline Larue becomes Addie. She is free and can do anything she wants, but she can’t leave a mark on the world and no one remembers her as soon as they turn their backs. Except the “God” that cursed her.
After some time Addie discovers that although she can not write, draw, or leave any mark some way or another, she can inspire others. This is how Addie gets painted throughout history.
In the 21st century, Addie meets a boy who does seem to remember her. Is this a trick? Is this how her “God” wants to break her spirit so she will give up her soul? Addie Larue intents to find out.
This was the best story I read in years. Someone who gets cursed and meets someone who can remember her, is maybe not, that original. But the exact way how Addie Larue handles her cursed life, her struggles in the beginning, her fight to stay sane, … This is what makes it special.
This book was the second book I read from V.E.Schwab and I loved this one way more. I think this might be her best book so far. It might even be the best book of 2020.
I hope you will enjoy it just as much.
