The review:

In Mist we read the story of Louis Koch. He is a filmmaker who has finally finished his first movie. At the premiere, we learn that Louis has his own way of dealing with stress. He consumes large amounts of alcohol.

In the movie, a young woman gets killed with a wooden statue of Jesus. After the first showing of the movie, a young woman confronts Louis with the fact that his movie tells the story of her mother’s death. He keeps saying that his movie was based on a dream he had. But because of his addiction, there is a ‘mist’ over part of his memory. He starts to doubt himself. Did he base his movie on a true crime or did he dream up this story?

‘Mist’ gives an original spin to a ‘Whodunit’ instead of a detective who is looking for the killer, we get a filmmaker looking for the truth behind his own movie.

This book also gives insight into the themes: forgetfulness and addiction. These two themes return in so many aspects of this book. The way that Eric Corton describes these themes is so believable. It leads me to think that he has either personal experience with it or has done his homework really well.

The people who designed this cover also deserve a shout out. The colour combination of the blue and orange tints give it a surreal impression and the art itself only enhances that. It really sets the right mood for this book. 

So, if you are interested in these themes then this is the book for you. It is a thriller, so that adds more than enough suspense to keep you on the edge of your seat from start to finish.
