In the first book, we learnt that Maddie lost her brother 10 years ago. However, he was a Solarian that had to hide from the soul trade.
In this book, we go deeper down this rabbit hole and find a way to travel between the realms without getting ill. Maddie’s mom left a gauntlet in her old room made from Phoenix Flame. This gauntlet allows the wearer to travel between realms, but the whole armour could make rips in the realms.
Maddie goes to Fiordenkill with Brekken and Graylin to find her brother. They find him and the complete Phoenix Flame Armor. But Nate steals it. Can they trust him or isn’t he the good brother they knew a long time ago?
This is the second book in the Havenfall series and even though it is happening right after the events from the first book, we still see a big change in Maddie. She is more determined and feels more grown-up. We do know the soul trade is a big problem to handle, so she won’t be able to do it on her own. However, this young woman is one hell of a fighter.
This was such an immersive book with twists and turns at every corner. I loved how everything came together in the end. It had to since this is, by my knowledge, the last book in this series. I only have the feeling that I missed one chapter. The chapter explaining what happened to Brekken. Or is it just me? Let me know if you know what happened.
Anyways, this book was worth the one year wait.
